Sarah Carli

Sarah Carli is an Australian track and field athlete, who specializes in the 400m hurdles. Representing Australia at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, she reached the semi-finals in women’s 400m hurdles. Sarah Carli also qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but was eliminated after finishing fifth in her heat of the women’s 400m hurdles in 56:93 secs. She is a World U18 Championships silver medalist, Oceania champion, and two-time National champion.

Sarah Carli was born on September 5, 1994, in Wollongong City, Australia. She was 8 years old when she joined Wollongong City Little Athletics with her sister.

Sarah Carli started her competitive career in 2010, at the age of 16. During the season she earned the gold at the Sydney Australian U17 Championships and Australian Schools in 400m hurdles, finishing in 60.52 sec.

In 2011, Sarah Carli earned the silver at the Lille IAAF World Youth Championships in 400m hurdles. She also earned the silver at the Sydney Australian U18 Championships, as well as the gold at the Sydney NSW U18 Championships, Glendale Hunter Winter Series, and Sydney Waratah Series.

In 2012, Sarah Carli won the bronze at the Sydney Waratah Series and Perth Track Classic, but also competed at the Sydney Track Classic in 400m hurdles. During the season she competed also at the 400m relay, earning the silver at the Sydney Australian Junior Championships and the gold at the Mannheim Bauhaus Junioren-Gala.

Sarah Carli debuted at the national championship in 2014, finishing 7th at the Melbourne Australian Championships. During the season, she also competed at the Melbourne IAAF World Challenge and finished 5th, very close to the medals zone.

She was very close to winning her first senior national medal in 2016, but finished 5th at the Sydney Australian Championships in 400m hurdles. She repeated the same achievement in 2017, but in the next season won the bronze at the Gold Coast Australian Championships. During the 2018 season, she also earned the silver at the Sydney Athletics Grand Prix and the gold at the Sydney Treloar Shield.

In 2019, Sarah Carli earned the silver at the Sydney Australian Championships and Oceania Championships. She also won the gold at the Canberra Track Classic and the bronze at the Sydney Track Classic. During the season she also competed in 400m hurdles at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics, improving her personal best to 55.43 sec but remained out of the finals.

In 2020, Sarah Carli made a strong season, winning the gold at the Jandakot Airport Track Classic, silver at the Canberra Track Classic, and gold at the Sydney NSW Championships.

In 2021, Sarah Carli qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but was eliminated after finishing fifth in her heat of the women’s 400m hurdles. Meanwhile, during the season she earned the bronze at the Festival of Athletics in Townsville.

Sarah Carli won her first national title in 2022, triumphing at the Sydney Australian Championships. During the season she earned the gold at the Mackay Oceania Athletics Championships and Meeting International d’Athletisme de la Province de Liege. She also earned the bronze at the Kuortane Games and competed at the Eugene World Athletics Championships and Birmingham XXII Commonwealth Games, but failed to earn a medal.

In 2023, Sarah Carli won her second national title in 400m hurdles, triumphing at the Brisbane Australian Championships. Meanwhile, she earned the gold at the Sydney Track Classic and Brisbane Track Classic, as well as the silver at the Paavo Nurmi Games and Meeting Nikaia. She competed at the Budapest World Athletics Championships but finished 6th in the heats.
