Sharlene Mawdsley is an Irish athlete, who competes in the 200m and 400m. She is a bronze medalist from the 2022 Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships and also competed at the 2023 Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships, 2022 Oregon World Athletics Championships, 2022 Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships, and 2021 Torun European Athletics Indoor Championships. She is also a multiple Irish champion.

Sharlene Mawdsley was born on August 10, 1998, in Ireland. She started in athletics at an early age and proved to be one of the most talented Irish athletes. She went under the spotlight in 2013, winning the gold at the Tullamore Irish U16 School’s Championships at 200m and bronze at 100m. She also earned the silver at the Tullamore Woodie’s DIY AAI Juvenile Championships.

Sharlene Mawdsley made her professional debut in 2014, winning the gold at the Dublin Tailteann Games in 200m. During the athletics season, she also won the bronze at the Cork Irish Junior Championships and silver medals at the Dublin U18 Celtic Games and the Athlone Irish Junior Indoor Championships. She also competed at the Cardiff SIAB Schools’ International but remained 4th in 200m.

In 2015, Sharlene Mawdsley started competing internationally, taking part in events in Belgium, Germany, and Sweden. During the indoor season, she won the gold at Athlone Irish U23/U20 Indoor Championships and bronze at the Athlone Irish Juvenile Indoor Championships in 200m. The outdoor season was quite successful for her, as at 200m, she won the gold at the Greystones Irish Miler’s Club and the Leixlip Irish Milers Club events, the silver at the Oordegem IFAM Meeting and the Mannheim Bauhaus Junioren-Gala, as well as finished 8th at the Eskilstuna European Junior Championships. At the 4x100m relay, she grabbed the gold at the Mannheim Bauhaus Junioren-Gala and the silver at the Dublin AAI Open Games.

Sharlene Mawdsley competed at the 2016 Bydgoszcz IAAF World U20 Championships at 4x100m relay and 200m individually. In both, she failed to win a medal but made a strong performance. During the season she won the gold at the Tullamore Irish Schools Championships in 100m and 200m, as well as Athlone Irish U23/U20 Indoor Championships and Tullamore Irish U23/U20 Championships in 200m.

In 2017, Sharlene Mawdsley won the gold at the Tullamore Irish U23/U20 Championships and Athlone Irish U23/U20 Indoor Championships in 200m. She also earned her first national title at the Athlone Irish Indoor Championships in 200m and debuted at the Golden Label events at the Lausanne Athletissima, finishing 6th at the 4x100m relay.

In 2019, she continue competing at the top level in her crowning discipline 200m, but also started running at 400m. At 200m, Sharlene Mawdsley earned the gold at the Irish U23 Championships and AAI National League, as well as silver at the IUAA Indoor Championships and Irish University Championships. At 400m, she won the gold at the Irish Championships, Leevale Meet. She also competed at the Gavle European U23 Championships at 4x100m and 400m, finishing 4th and 7th, respectively. During the season she won the gold at the European Athletics Team Championships in Sandnes, Norway, in the 4x400m relay.

In 2020, Sharlene Mawdsley won the gold at the Irish Indoor University Championships and the silver at the Leevale 2020 Meet, both in 200m. She also won the silver at the Irish Indoor Championships in 400m.

Sharlene Mawdsley made her senior debut at the major championship in 2021. She competed at the 2021 Torun European Athletics Indoor Championships in 400m but did not qualify for the finals. She won the gold at the Meeting Cidade de Lisboa and Manchester Invitational in 400m.

In 2022, Sharlene Mawdsley proved to be one of the top athletes in Ireland. She won the bronze at the 2022 Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships in the 4x400m relay. During the season she also competed at the 2022 Oregon World Athletics Championships, finishing 8th in the 4x400m mixed relay. At the 2022 Munich European Athletics Championships, she finished 6th in the 4x400m relay and remained out of the final at 400m. Meanwhile, she won gold at the Irish Indoor Championships in 200m and bronze at the Resisprint International in 400m.

Sharlene Mawdsley won the title at the Irish Indoor Championships in 2023 and competed at the 2023 Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships, finishing 6th at the 4x400m relay and remaining out of the final at 400m individually.
