Nicola Olyslagers is an Australian high jumper. She won the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the high jump and is the current high jump Oceanian record holder.
Nicola Lauren Olyslagers was born on December 28, 1996, in North Gosford, Australia. She started with athletics at an early age and started competing during her school age.
Nicola Olyslagers started her career already in 2011, winning Mingara and Sydney U16 events, as well as competing at the Sydney NSW Championship, finishing 4th. On the next season, she already won the Sydney NSW Open Championships and Sydney NSW All Schools Championships.
In 2014, she won silver at the Melbourne IAAF World Challenge and finished 4th at the Melbourne Australian Championships. Nicola Olyslagers finished 4th at the 2015 Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea. The same season, she won the bronze medals at the Melbourne IAAF World Challenge, Brisbane Australian Championships, and Sydney Australian Junior Championships.
Nicola Olyslagers competed in the women’s high jump at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics, as well as the women’s high jump at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where she achieved a personal best jump of 1.91m and won the bronze medal. On June 20, 2019, she jumped a personal best of 1.96m at Mestsky Stadion, Ostrava, Czech Republic. Achieving a new personal best of 1.98 m in Sinn, Germany, on August 29, 2020, she rose to second place in the all-time list of Australian women high jumpers.
Nicola Olyslagers set Australian and Oceanian records with a personal best 2.00 m jump on April 18, 2021. She improved her personal best to 2.01m in Stockholm on July 4, 2021 and to 2.02m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on August 7, 2021, winning silver.
Nicola Olyslagers is one of the hottest and most talented track and field athletes and one of the big favorites in high jump competitions.
