Nadine Broersen

Nadine Broersen is a Dutch track and field athlete, specializing in the combined events heptathlon and pentathlon, as well as the high jump. She is the World Indoor pentathlon and European Cup Combined Events champion, as well as the European Championships Silver medalist. Nadine Broersen is also a Dutch record holder in pentathlon

Nadine Broersen was born on April 29, 1990, in Hoorn, the Netherlands. She started in athletics as a kid, showing great skills in the three events – 100m hurdles, high jump, and javelin throw. Thus, in 2009, was called for the Dutch national combined events squad and started competing entirely in combined events – heptathlon and pentathlon.

Nadine Broersen made her professional debut in 2007 at the Duffel Memorial Vertommen-Cuddy in javelin throw, finishing 6th. During the season she finished 5th at the Neerpelt Nacht van de Euregio and Amsterdam Dutch Championships in the same event. In the next season, she competed again at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships in the javelin throw event, finishing 7th.

In 2009, Nadine Broersen already focused on combined events and finished 5th at the Novi Sad European Junior Championships in heptathlon and 15th at the Zaragoza International CE Indoor Match in the pentathlon. Meanwhile, during the season she earned the javelin throw gold and long jump silver at the Zwolle Dutch Club Championships.

In 2010, Nadine Broersen won her first national medal in combined events, earning the pentathlon silver at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships. In the heptathlon, she finished 5th at the Hengelo European Cup Combined Events 1st League and 8th at the Desenzano del Garda Multistars. Meanwhile, Nadine Broersen won her first national gold at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships in the high jump, while at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships, she finished 4th in the high jump. In 100m hurdles, she earned the gold medals at the Leiden Gouden Spike and Eindhoven Open, as well as the bronze at the Breda Track Meeting.

Nadine Broersen continued showing great form and skills in 2011, improving her results in hurdles, high jump, and combined events. She won the pentathlon gold at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships, while in heptathlon she also finished 9th at the Ostrava European U23 Championships and 4th at the prestigious Desenzano del Garda Multistars. In 60m hurdles, she finished 6th at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships and earned the bronze at the Dortmund Hallensportfest, while in 100m hurdles, she won the gold medals at the Leiden Dutch Club Championships, Leiden Gouden Spike, and Hoorn Flynth Recordwedstrijden. During the season, Nadine Broersen won two more national titles in the high jump, triumphing with the gold at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships and Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships.

In 2012, Nadine Broersen made her debut at the Olympic Games, competing in the London 2012 Olympics in heptathlon, finishing 11th. Meanwhile, in the combined events, she won the pentathlon silver at the Praha International Combined Events Meeting. In the javelin throw she earned the silver at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships, as well as the gold medals at the Zwolle Dutch Club Championships and the Hilversum Dutch Club Championships. Nadine Broersen continued to dominate the high jump at the national events, winning the gold at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships and Eindhoven Kamerbeek Games. In the 100m hurdles, she won the gold at the Hilversum Arena Games and the silver at the Eindhoven Kamerbeek Games, as well as the bronze at the Leiden Gouden Spike.

In 2013, Nadine Broersen made a great season, winning the gold at the Nottwil European Combined Events Team Championships 1st League and the silver at the Gotzis Hypo-Meeting in the heptathlon, as well as the silver at the Valencia International Combined Events Match in the pentathlon. She competed also at the Goteborg European Indoor Championships in the pentathlon, finishing 12th, and the Moskva IAAF World Championships in the heptathlon, finishing 10th. Meanwhile, during the season she earned another national title at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships in the javelin Throw, but also won the bronze at the 100m hurdles, while at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships, she won the silver in the high jump.

Nadine Broersen made her best season in 2014, winning the pentathlon gold at the Sopot IAAF World Indoor Championships, setting a national record, and the heptathlon silver at the Zurich European Championships. In combined events, she also won the gold medals at the Torun European Combined Events Team Championships Super League in the heptathlon and Sheffield British Athletics Combined Events Match in the pentathlon. Meanwhile, during the season, she earned the long jump bronze at the Liege Meeting International de la province de Liege and Leiden Gouden Spike and triumphed with the national titles in the high jump at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships and Amsterdam Dutch Championships.

In 2015, Nadine Broersen finished 4th at the Beijing IAAF World Championships in the heptathlon, just a step from the medals. However, she earned the bronze at the Gotzis Hypo-Meeting in the same event. She also competed at the Praha European Indoor Championships in pentathlon but without success. At the Amsterdam Dutch Championships, she earned the gold in the long jump and the silver in the javelin throw, while at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships earned the silver in the high jump.

Nadine Broersen competed at her second Olympic Games in 2016. She was part of the Dutch combined events team for the Rio 2016 Olympics, where finished 13th in the heptathlon. Although not have great success in the Olympics, during the season she earned gold at the Golden Label’s Talence Decastar in the same event. Meanwhile, she earned the silver at the Amsterdam Dutch Championships in the javelin throw.

In 2017, Nadine Broersen won the gold at the Monzon European Combined Events Team Championships 1st League in the heptathlon and also competed at the London IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Talence Decastar, and Gotzis Hypo-Meeting in the same event, but without success. In the pentathlon, she competed at the Beograd European Indoor Championships and the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships. At individual events, she earned the javelin throw and long jump silver medals and 100m hurdles bronze at the Utrecht Dutch Championships, as well as high jump silver at the Apeldoorn Dutch Indoor Championships.

In 2018, Nadine Broersen did not compete in combined events, but only in the individual disciplines. During the season her biggest achievement was earning the javelin throw gold at the Utrecht Dutch Championships. In the same event, she also triumphed with gold at the Grootebroek Westfries Atletiek Gala, as well as the silver at the Zoetermeer Dutch Club Championships. In the shot put, she won the silver at the Hilversum Arena Games.

Nadine Broersen earned the heptathlon bronze at the Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf-Meeting. In the same event, she also competed at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics but did not earn a medal, finishing 6th. Meanwhile, she earned high jump gold at the High Jump Meeting in Amiens and the javelin throw silver at the Gouden Spike in Leiden.

In 2020, Nadine Broersen competed at the Utrecht Dutch Indoor Championships in the individual events but finished 5th in the long jump and shot put, as well as at the Utrecht Dutch Championships, finishing 5th in the long jump.

In 2021, Nadine Broersen competed in her third Olympics, taking part in the heptathlon event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Unfortunately, she did not finish due to failure in her crowning events javelin throw and long jump. Meanwhile, she earned the gold at the Dutch Indoor Combined Events Championships in the pentathlon and finished 10th at the Torun European Athletics Indoor Championships in the same event. In Individual events, she won the javelin throw silver at the Breda Dutch Championships.

Nadine Broersen missed the 2022 season for maternity, but in 2023 she earned her first combined events national title, triumphing with the gold at the Breda Dutch Championships in heptathlon. During the season she won the long jump gold at the T-Meeting in Tilburg, the high jump silver at the Gouden Spike in Leiden, and the shot put silver at the Harry Schulting Games in Vught.
