Anna Bongiorni is an Italian sprinter athlete. She is a European Championships bronze medalist, IAAF World Relays winner, and European U23 Championships silver medalist.

Anna Bongiorni was born on September 15, 1993, in Pisa, Italy. She started in athletics as a kid and showed great skills in the sprints from the very beginning.

Anna Bongiorni started her professional athletics career in 2009, winning the 60m bronze at the Ancona Italian U18 Championships. During the outdoor season, she competed at the Bressanone IAAF World Youth Championships in 100m and 4x100m medley relay but did not reach the finals in both events. At the Tampere 10th European Youth Olympic Festival she finished 5th in 200m and 7th in 4x100m relay. Her biggest success during the season was winning the silver at the Doha Gymnasiade 2009 in 100m. Meanwhile, she made a great performance locally, as in 100m even she won the gold at the Grosseto Italian U18 Championships and Quarrata Gran Prix Montepaschi, and the silver at the Comacchio Italian Club Championships and Livorno Gran Prix Montepaschi.

In 2010, Anna Bongiorni qualified for the Singapore Youth Olympic Games, where earned the bronze in the 4x100m medley relay. She also competed individually in 200m but finished only 7th. During the season she debuted at the national championships, competing at the Grosseto Italian Championships in 200m, but did not reach the final. However, during the season, she won the 60m silver at the Ancona Italian U18 Indoor Championships, the 100m gold at the Rieti Italian U18 Championships and Castelnovo ne Monti, as well as in the 200m earned the silver at the Firenze Italian Club Championships and the gold at the Orvieto Italian Club Championships.

Anna Bongiorni continued gaining experience in 2011 and won her first national medal, earning the 200m bronze at the Torino Italian Championships. During the season she made another great achievement, winning the 4x100m relay silver at the Tallinn European Junior Championships. Meanwhile, she won the 60m gold at the Ancona Italian Junior Indoor Championships, the 100m silver and 200m silver at the Bressanone Italian Junior Championships and Macerata Italian Club Championships, the 100m gold at the Firenze Regional Championships, and the 400m gold at the San Giuliano Terme Gran Prix Montepaschi.

Anna Bongiorni missed almost the entire 2012 season, taking part mostly in regional championships. The biggest competition she competed in was the Barcelona IAAF World Junior Championships in the 4x100m relay, but did not reach the finals.

In 2013, Anna Bongiorni earned the 100m bronze at the Rieti Italian U23 Championships and competed in 400m at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships, but did not reach the finals. The next season was also weak with only winning the bronze at the Milano Italian Club Championships in the 4x400m relay.

In 2015, Anna Bongiorni got again in form, winning the 100m silver and 4x100m relay gold at the Torino Italian Championships. In the 4x100m relay, she earned the silver at the Tallinn European U23 Championships and Cheboksary European Team Championships, but also competed at the Beijing IAAF World Championships and Golden League’s Zurich Weltklasse. At the individual events, the Italian athlete triumphed with the 100m and 200m gold medals at the Rieti Italian U23 Championships and Fidenza Italian University Championships.

In 2016, Anna Bongiorni won her first national title, triumphing with the 60m gold at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships. By the end of the season, she earned her second national title at the Rieti Italian Championships in the 4x100m relay. Her biggest success during the season was 4x100m relay bronze at the Roma Golden Gala – Pietro Mennea. Meanwhile, in 100m she won the titles at the Pescara Meeting Cornacchia, Agropoli Italian Club Championships, and Rieti Regional Championships.

Anna Bongiorni won two more national titles in 2017, triumphing with the 60m gold at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships and 4x100m relay gold at the Trieste Italian Championships, where also earned 100m silver and 200m bronze. In the 4x100m relay, she won the bronze at the Monaco Herculis and the gold at the Villeneuve d’Ascq European Team Championships. Anna Bongiorni competed at the Beograd European Indoor Championships in 60m but did not reach the finals. At the Universiade in Taipei City, she earned the bronze in 200m, finished 6th in 100m and did not reach the finals in 4x100m. Meanwhile, she earned the gold at the Geneve AtletiCAGeneve and silver at the Luzern Spitzen Leichtathletik in 200m.

Italian 4x100m relay

In 2018, the Italian athlete earned the bronze medals at the Tarragona Mediterranean Games in the 100m and 4x100m relay. She dominated the national championships, earning the 60m gold at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships and the 4x100m gold and 100m bronze at the Pescara Italian Championships. Anna Bongiorni competed at the Birmingham IAAF World Indoor Championships and Berlin European Athletics Championships but did not reach the finals.

In 2019, she started the indoor season with the only achievement winning the 60m bronze at the Italian Indoor Championships. However, the outdoor season was quite busy in the 4x100m relay, as Anna Bongiorni finished 7th at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, as well as 6th at the Wuhan CISM Military World Games and Zurich Weltklasse. She earned the bronze at the Bressanone Italian Championships but also finished 5th at the Bydgoszcz European Athletics Team Championships and Yokohama IAAF World Relays.

In 2020, Anna Bongiorni earned the 100m gold at the 9th Meeting International Citta di Savona and 13th Triveneto Meeting in Trieste, as well as 100m bronze at the Trieste Italian Championships and 56th Palio Citta della Quercia. She finished 7th at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in Rome and 6th at the Herculis in Monaco.

In 2021, Anna Bongiorni earned a quota for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where competed in 100m and 4x100m relay, but unfortunately did not qualify for the finals in both events. However, during the season, she won another national title, earning the 100m gold at the Rovereto Italian Championships, but also earned the 200m silver. The Italian sprinter triumphed with the 4x100m relay gold at the Chorzow World Athletics Relays, 100m gold at the Sollentuna GP, and the 100m silver at the Spitzen Leichtathletik in Luzern.

In 2022, Anna Bongiorni made one of her biggest achievements, winning the 4x100m bronze at the Munich European Athletics Championships. In the same event, she also finished 8th at the Eugene World Athletics Championships.

In 2023, Anna Bongiorni proved to be one of the best Italian sprinters, earning the 60m bronze at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships, as well as 100m and 200m silver medals at the Molfetta Italian Championships. She also was part of the Italian 4x100m relay at the Budapest World Athletics Championships, finishing 4th in the final. She also competed at the Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships in 60m, but did not reach the final. Meanwhile, Anna Bongiorni earned the 100m and 200m gold at the Guldensporenmeeting in Kortrijk, as well as 100m silver at the 2° Meeting Citta’ Di Lucca.
