Maria-Roberta Gherca is an Italian track and field athlete, who competes in the pole vault. She is a national indoor pole vault champion and bronze medalist at the Mediterranean Athletics U23 Championships. She has a personal best of 4.34m outdoors and 4.27m indoors.
Maria-Roberta Gherca was born on March 9, 2000, in Rome, Italy. She started in athletics as a kid and started building her career as a junior.
Maria-Roberta Gherca started her competitive career in 2014, winning the gold at the Roma U16 Indoor Meeting with 3.30m and the Orvieto Meeting with 3.10m. In the next season, she continued gaining experience and won other junior titles.
In 2016, Maria-Roberta Gherca won the Ancona Italian U18 Indoor Championships and Roma U18 Indoor Meeting pole vault golds, improving her personal best to 3.85m. During the indoor season, she debuted also at the national championships, competing at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships, but finished only 18th. During the outdoor season, Maria-Roberta Gherca won the gold at the Jesolo Italian U18 Championships and Bressanone BRIXIA Meeting. She competed at the Tbilisi European U18 Championships, qualifying for the pole vault final, but failed to record a successful attempt.
In 2017, Maria-Roberta Gherca won her first national title, triumphing with the gold at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships with a personal best of 4.15m. During the outdoor season, she earned the gold at the Rieti Italian U18 Championships and Bressanone BRIXIA Meeting, but also competed at the Trieste Italian Championships, finishing 7th. She also competed at the Grosseto European U20 Championships.
Maria-Roberta Gherca missed the 2018 indoor season, but during the summer competed again at the Pescara Italian Championships, finishing 8th. She also competed at the Tampere IAAF World U20 Championships but failed to overcome the qualifications. However, during the season, she earned the gold at the Agropoli Italian U20 Championships, Rieti Regional Championships, and Ostia Regional Championships.
In 2019, Maria-Roberta Gherca won the pole vault gold at the U20 ITA – FRA Indoor Match and Italian U20 Indoor Championships, as well as the bronze at the Ancona Indoor Meeting. She started the outdoor season by winning the gold at the Rieti Italian U20 Championships and Saronno Pole Vault Challenge. Maria-Roberta Gherca competed at the Boras European U20 Championships and Bressanone Italian Championships, finishing 6th and 7th, respectively.
In 2020, Maria-Roberta Gherca she won he bronze at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships and finished 4th at the Padova Italian Championships. Meanwhile, she triumphed with the gold at the Ancona Italian U23 Indoor Championships and Grosseto Italian U23 Championships, as well as the silver at the Ancona National Indoor Meeting and the 31st Meeting International di Atletia leggera sport soudarieta in Lignano Sabbiadoro.
Maria-Roberta Gherca had a quite weak 2021 indoor season, but during the outdoor season, she won the gold at the Rieti Regional Championships, Roma Regional U23 Championships, and Agropoli Italian Club Championships. Meanwhile, she earned the bronze at the XXIV Meeting Internazionale Città di Nembro in Nembro and Barletta Pole Vault in Piazza, as well as finished 6th at the Rovereto Italian Championships and 4th at the Meeting Citta di Padova. During the season, she competed at the Tallinn European Athletics U23 Championships and qualified for the finals, but failed to make a successful attempt.
In 2022, Maria-Roberta Gherca won another national medal, earning the bronze at the Ancona Italian Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season, she won the pole vault gold medals at the Firenze Indoor Jumping Meeting, the Ancona Italian U23 Indoor Championships, and the Firenze Indoor Jumping Meeting. Maria-Roberta Gherca started the outdoor season by winning the gold at the Rieti Trofeo Perseo, as well as the silver at the Rieti Invitational Pole Vault Meeting and Rieti Regional Club Championships. She finished 6th at the Rieti Italian Championships, before winning the bronze at the XXV Meeting Internazionale Citta di Nembro and Pescara Mediterranean Athletics U23 Championships.
In 2023, Maria-Roberta Gherca won the bronze at the Tampere Indoor Meeting, Kalamata Street Pole Vault, and the Grifone Meeting in Grosseto. She won the silver at the Pietrasanta Italian Club Championships and IV Asta in Piazza Aosta. At the national championship, she finished 4th at the Molfetta Italian Championships. In August she won the gold at the Huizingen BMW Louyet Meeting. Meanwhile, she set her personal outdoor best at 4.34m and indoor best of 4.27m.
