Maja Askag is a Swedish athlete, who specializes in the triple jump and long jump. She is twice World U20 champion, twice European U20 champion, and twice European U23 Championships silver medalist. Her personal best in the long jump is 6.75m and 14.05m in the triple jump.
Maja Askag was born on December 18, 2002. She started training in athletics as a child and proved her talent in jumping – triple jump and long jump.
Maja Askag started her competitive career in 2017, winning the gold at the Goteborg Varldsungdomsspelen U16 event, as well as the silver at the Eskilstuna Malarspelen in the triple jump. During the season she won the bronze at the Orebro Indoor Games in the long jump.
In 2018, Maja Askag won the gold at the Enskede Swedish U17 Championships in both disciplines – triple jump and long jump. She also earned gold at the Goteborg Världsungdomsspelen, Vaxjo Swedish U17 Indoor Championships, and Sollentuna SAYO Games in the triple jump. She also competed at the Gyor European U18 Championships in the triple jump but remained only 9th in the final.
Maja Askag made a fantastic season in 2019, winning the gold at the 15th European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku and the Swedish U18 Championships in triple jump, as well as the silver at the Swedish Championships and the gold at the Swedish Indoor Championships in the same discipline.
In 2020, Maja Askag won the silver medals at the Swedish Championships and Swedish Indoor Championships in the triple jump, as well as the gold at the Swedish U20 Indoor Championships and Swedish U20 Indoor Championships, as well as various local athletics meetings.
Maja Askag made another perfect season in 2021, winning the gold medals at the Nairobi European Athletics U20 Championships and Nairobi World Athletics U20 Championships in both disciplines triple jump and long jump. She also won the gold at the Swedish Championships in the triple jump and the bronze in the long jump, as well as the gold at the Swedish Indoor Championships in the triple jump. She dominated both disciplines locally and proved to be one of the biggest athletics talents.
In 2022, Maja Askag continues being one of the top Swedish and European athletes in the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump, she won the gold at the Swedish Championships, Nordic Baltic U23 Championships, Swedish U23 Indoor Championships, and Finnkampen Meeting, as well as silver at the Karlstad GP. She debuted in the Diamond League, competing at the BAUHAUS-Galan in Stockholm, but finished only 9th. In the triple jump, Maja Askag won the gold at the Nordic Baltic U23 Championships, Folksam GP Söderhamn, Swedish U23 Championships, and Swedish U23 Indoor Championships, as well as the silver at the Swedish Indoor Championships, Nordic Indoor Match, and Swedish Championships. She also competed at the Munich European Athletics Championships, finishing 8th in the final.
In 2023, Maja Askag won the silver at the European Athletics U23 Championships in the long jump and triple jump, as well as the bronze at the European Athletics Team Championships First Division in the triple jump. In the long jump, she won gold at the Copenhagen Athletics Games, silver at the Folksam Grand Prix Karlstad and the Folksam GP Stockholm Indoor 2023, and bronze at the Gothenburg Games. In the triple jump, she earned gold at the Nordic Senior Championships, Nordic Indoor Match, and the Swedish Indoor Championships. She also finished 8th at the Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships.
