Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is an American hurdler and sprinter. She is the Tokyo 2020 Olympics champion with an OR, and 2022 World champion with a WR time of 50.68 sec. Setting four world records during 13 months, she was the first woman to break the 52-second (June 2021) and 51-second (July 2022) barriers in the 400m hurdles. She holds six out of the seven fastest times on this list. She was the 2019 Diamond League champion. In 2022, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was awarded the World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year.

Sydney Michelle McLaughlin was born on August 7, 1999, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States. She was born into a family of athletes, so her future was clear and she started in sports at a very early age. At the national junior championships in 2014, Sydney McLaughlin placed a close second in the 400m hurdles and her time of 55.63 sec was a national high school freshman record and a world age-14 best. She would have qualified to represent the United States at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships but was a year too young to be eligible. She also set a world age group best of 13.34 sec in the 100m hurdles. In 2015, she improved her 400m hurdles best to 55.28 s at the national youth trials. She qualified for the World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia, where she won gold in 55.94 sec. She finished the year as the world youth and junior leader in the event. As a 15-year-old, Sydney McLaughlin was the 2015 World youth champion. In 2016, she was the youngest athlete since 1980 to qualify for the US Olympic track team, having placed third at the US Olympic Trials, with the current world under-18 best of 54.15 sec, the then also world U20 record. She holds the current world U20 record of 53.60 sec, having achieved a junior personal best of 52.75 sec (not ratified), with both marks set in 2018.

And the great youth career of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone definitely continues with a remarkable senior performance. The American athlete won the gold at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, in the 4×400m relay and silver in 400m hurdles. She also won the fold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and 2022 World Championships in Eugene (USA) in 4×400m and silver in 400m hurdles.

She is also Diamond League 400 m hurdles champion in 2019.

She is the winner of the NSAF Indoor Nationals in 400m hurdles and 4x400m in 2016 and 2017, as well as in 400m hurdles at the USATF Championships in 2022.
