Michaela Meijer

Michaela Meijer is a Swedish athlete who specializes in the pole vault. She is a European U23 and World U18 Championships silver medalist and also competed at the 2015 Beijing IAAF World Championships, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Her personal best in the pole vault is 4.83m outdoors and 4.75m indoors.

Michaela Meijer was born on July 30, 1993, in Gothenburg, Sweden. She started in athletics at an early age, competing in the sprints, hurdles, high jump, and long jump, but later specialized in the pole vault.

Michaela Meijer started her competitive career in 2007, winning the bronze at the Halmstad Laxaspelen U18.

Although quite young, the Swedish athlete continued gaining experience in athletics during the next season, winning the gold at the Goteborg Varldsungdomspelen U16, Lerum Stonehill Games, and Malmo Pallaspelen U17 in 2008.

In 2009, Michaela Meijer debuted at the national championship, competing at the Bollnas Swedish Indoor Championships, but failed to make a successful attempt in the final. However, during the outdoor season, she won her first national title, triumphing at the Malmo Swedish Championships, but also won the silver at the Bressanone IAAF World Youth Championships. Meanwhile, during the season, Michaela Meijer won the silver at the Goteborg Folksam Challenge and the gold at the Goteborg Varldsungdomsspelen and Karlskrona Swedish U23 & Junior Championships.

In 2010, Michaela Meijer won the silver at the Falun Swedish Championships and competed at the Moncton IAAF World Junior Championships, but did not make a successful attempt in the final. She won the silver at the Helsinki FIN-SWE International Match and Goteborg Pole Vault Meeting.

Michaela Meijer won the bronze at the Gavle Swedish Championships and Goteborg Folksam Grand Prix in 2011. During the season she triumphed with the gold at the Helsinki FIN-SWE Match, Copenhagen Nordic Junior Championships, and Nivelles Meeting International Lotto Cup.

Michaela Meijer missed most of the 2012 season. However, she won the gold at the Bollnas Swedish Junior Indoor Championships, the silver at the Orebro Swedish Indoor Championships, an the bronze at the Karlskrona Rosenbomspelen.

In 2014, she returned on the track and field, winning the bronze at the Goteborg Swedish Indoor Championships and the gold at the Malmo Atleticumspelen. During the outdoor season, Michaela Meijer won the silver at the Umea Swedish Championships and the bronze at the Karlstad Folksam GP, as well as the gold at the Merksem Antwerp Athletics Gala. She also competed at the Braunschweig European Team Championships but did not earned a medal.

In 2015, Michaela Meijer won her most prestigious honor so far, earning the silver at the Tallinn European U23 Championships. She also debuted in the Diamond League, competing at the Stockholm BAUHAUS Athletics, but remained only 7th. During the season she competed at the Beijing IAAF World Championships and qualified for the finals, but failed to record a successful attempt and missed the medals. However, during the season she won the gold at the Goteborg Folksam GP, Karlstad Folksam GP, the silver at the Soderhamn Swedish Championships and Satra Swedish Indoor Championships, as well as competed at the Praha European Indoor Championships.

In 2016, Michaela Meijer finished 5th at the Amsterdam European Athletics Championships and Diamond League’s London Müller Anniversary Games, as well as competed at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where did not reach the final. During the season she triumphed with the gold at the Malmo Swedish Indoor Championships, as well as the silver at the Sollentuna Swedish Championships and Sollentuna Folksam GP.

Michaela Meijer won her first Diamond League medals in 2017, winning the bronze medals at the London Muller Anniversary Games and Birmingham Muller Grand Prix. She competed at the London IAAF World Championships in Athletics and Beograd European Indoor Championships but failed to earn a medal. Meanwhile, she won the gold at the Helsingborg Swedish Championships and the silver at the Vaxjo Swedish Indoor Championships.

In 2019, Michaela Meijer won the silver at the BAUHAUS-galan in Stockholm and Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, but also competed at the Diamond League’s final at the AG Memorial Van Damme in Bruxelles, but did not earn a medal. She won the silver at the Karlstad Swedish Championships and Norrkoping Swedish Indoor Championships, but also competed at the Glasgow European Indoor Championships and Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics, but again missed the medals.

In 2020, Michaela Meijer won the bronze at the BAUHAUS-galan in Stockholm, the silver at the 59th Ostrava Golden Spike, and the gold at the Gala dei Castelli in Bellinzona. She won the bronze at the Uppsala Swedish Championships and the silver at the Vaxjo Swedish Indoor Championships.

Michaela Meijer won another national title in 2021, triumphing at the Malmo Swedish Indoor Championships and finished 9th at the Torun European Athletics Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season, she won the bronze at the Finnkampen in Stockholm and competed at the Diamond League’s Muller British GP and Bauhaus-Galan in Stockholm. She took part at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but again did not reach the finals.

In 2022, Michaela Meijer earned the silver at the Finnkampen in Helsinki and the bronze at Norrkoping Swedish Championships and Paavo Nurmi Games. She competed at the Birmingham Diamond League, but after three fails did not record a successful attempt.

In 2023, Michaela Meijer won the Malmo Swedish Indoor Championships, Karlstad Nordic Indoor Match, and Tampere Indoor Meeting, before finishing 7th at the Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season, she won the gold at the Soderhamn Swedish Championships, as well as the silver at the Folksam Grand Prix Goteborg and the bronze at the Folksam Grand Prix Karlstad and Finnkampen in Stockholm. She competed at the Budapest World Athletics Championships but failed to reach the finals.
