Maryna Kylypko

Maryna Kylypko is a Ukrainian athlete specializing in the pole vault. She represented her country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, finishing fifth in the pole vault final. Her personal bests in the event are 4.70m outdoors and 4.62m indoors. Maryna Kylypko is a European U23 Championships Silver medalist and European Team Championships Silver medalist, as well as a seven-time outdoor national champion and four-time national indoor champion. She holds the Ukrainian national record.

Maryna Vyacheslavivna Kylypko was born on November 10, 1995, in Kharkiv, Ukraine. She started in athletics at an early age and proved to be one of the biggest talents in the country.

Maryna Kylypko started her competitive career already in 2010. She debuted at the Yalta Ukrainian U18 Championships, finishing 5th.

In 2011, Maryna Kylypko competed at the Lille IAAF World Youth Championships but did not reach the final. During the season she also competed at the Zaporozhye Ukrainian Indoor Cup and Yalta Ukrainian Cup, but missed the honors. However, she earned the silver at the Yalta BLR-UKR U18 Match.

Maryna Kylypko debuted at the national championship in 2012, competing at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships, but finished 5th very close to the honors zone. During the outdoor season, she earned the gold at the Kharkov Ukrainian Junior Cup and the bronze at the Kharkov Ukrainian Club Championships.

Maryna Kylypko started the 2013 indoor season winning the silver medals at the Zaporozhye Ukrainian Indoor Cup and Donetsk Ukrainian Junior Pole Vault Championship, before competing at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships, where finished 5th. During the outdoor season, she earned the silver at the Kharkov Ukrainian Junior Championships and competed at the Rieti European Junior Championships, but missed the final as finished 13th in the qualifications.

In 2014, Maryna Kylypko won the silver at the Kiev Ukrainian Club Championships and competed at the Eugene IAAF World Junior Championships, but again did not qualify for the final.

Maryna Kylypko won her first pole vault national titles in 2015, triumphing with gold at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships and Kirovograd Ukrainian Championships. She also won the gold at the Kharkov Summer Universiade, Zaporozhye Ukrainian Club Championships, and Kirovograd Ukrainian U23 Championships, as well as the silver at the Kirovograd Ukrainian Club Championships. She competed also at the Tallinn European U23 Championships but again did not qualify for the finals

In 2016, Maryna Kylypko won another pole vault national title at the Lutsk Ukrainian Championships. She represented her country at the Rio 2016 Olympics but did not reach the final. during the season she competed at the Amsterdam European Athletics Championships and Dakar IAAF World Challenge, but missed the medals. During the season, Maryna Kylypko won the silver at the prestigious Rovereto Palio Citta della Quercia, as well as the Budapest Hopp-Parade and Kuortane Games. She also competed at the Golden Spike Ostrava 2016 and Turku Paavo Nurmi Games, but did not win a medal.

In 2017, Maryna Kylypko won the gold at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships and Madrid Reunion Internacional, as well as the bronze at the Karlsruhe Indoor Meeting and Beograd European Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season, she triumphed with gold at the Kropyvnytskiy Ukrainian Championships and Turku Paavo Nurmi Games and also won the silver at the Bydgoszcz European U23 Championships and Heusden-Zolder KBC Night of Athletics, as well as the bronze at the Montreuil-sous-Bois Meeting International and Szekesfehervar Hopp-Parade. Maryna Kylypko competed at the London IAAF World Championships in Athletics but did not qualify for the final. However, she was very close to winning an honor at the Universiade in Taipei and Golden Spike Ostrava 2017 but finished 4th in both. She debuted at the Diamond League, competing at the Roma Golden Gala – Pietro Mennea, finishing 7th.

Maryna Kylypko made another strong season in 2018, dominating the national championships, winning the gold at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships and Lutsk Ukrainian Championships. During the indoor season she won the bronze at the Paris Indoor Meeting and Mondeville Meeting National, while during the outdoor season won the silver at the Meeting Stanislas Nancy and the bronze at the Turku Paavo Nurmi Games and Stockholm BAUHAUS-galan. She also competed at the Berlin European Athletics Championships and finished 8th.

In 2019, Maryna Kylypko competed at the Glasgow European Indoor Championships and Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics, but again missed to earn a medal. However, she won the silver at the Bydgoszcz European Athletics Team Championships, as well as the gold at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships and Lutsk Ukrainian Championships. During the season she also won the gold at the Folksam Grand Prix in Karlstad and KBC Night of Athletics in Heusden-Zolder, as well as the silver at the Meeting Madrid 2019.

The short 2020 season stopped the impetus in Maryna Kylypko’s results. However, during the season she won the gold at the Lutsk Ukrainian Championships and the silver at the Cluj-Napoca Balkan Championships.

In 2021, world sports returned to normal and Maryna Kylypko returned to the track. She earned the gold at the Lutsk Ukrainian Championships, setting a personal best and national record of 4.70m, as well as the silver at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships. Meanwhile, she competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, finishing 5th in the final. Maryna Kylypko earned the silver at the Gala dei Castelli, Memorial Josefa Odlozila, as well as the Istanbul Balkan Indoor Championships. She also finished 9th at the Torun European Athletics Indoor Championships.

In 2022, Maryna Kylypko won the gold at the Lappeenranta Games, the silver at the Hungarian GP Series Budapest and Hungarian GP Series Papa, as well as the bronze at the Kuortane Games. She competed at the Eugene World Athletics Championships, but again missed the medal.
