Nina Kennedy

Nina Kennedy is an Australian athlete who holds the national record in the pole vault. She competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and won gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She is also the Diamond League pole vault champion in 2022.

Nina Kennedy was born on April 5, 1997, in Busselton, Western Australia. She started in athletics at an early age and when she was 11 years old she joined her first club, Perry Lakes Little Athletics. In 2012, Nina Kennedy finished second in the senior Australian pole vault championships with a personal best of 4.10m. A year later she set a best of 4.31m and finished fifth at the IAAF World Youth (U18) Championships. At the 2014 IAAF World Juniors, she vaulted a personal best of 4.40m, just missing a medal to finish fourth.

In 2015, Nina Kennedy competed at the World Championships in Beijing, China, but did not record a successful attempt. During the same season, she was second at the Brisbane Australian Championships. During the next season, she was fourth at the Melbourne IAAF World Challenge and again won silver at the Sydney Australian Championships.

In 2018, Nina Kennedy made her first breakthrough in senior athletics, winning the bronze at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the gold at the Gold Coast Australian Championships. She also debuted in the Diamond League at the Lausanne Athletissima but finished only 11th. During the season she also won the gold at the Heusden-Zolder KBC Night of Athletics.

Nina Kennedy continue improving her results, but during the next two seasons, she failed to record some big achievements. She won the silver at the 2019 Jandakot Airport Perth Track Classic and the gold at the 2020 Sir Graeme Douglas International, 2020 Jandakot Airport Track Classic, and 2020 Canberra Track Classic.

In 2021, Nina Kennedy competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but finished only 22nd. However, she won golds at the Queensland Track Classic, the Australian Championships, and the Sydney Track Classic.

The season 2020 was the most successful for Nina Kennedy. She won the Diamond League final and the Commonwealth Games, as well as the bronze at the World Championships in Eugene. She also won gold at the Australian Championships and Paavo Nurmi Games.
