Florentina Iusco

Florentina Iusco is a Romanian track and field athlete who competes in the long jump and the triple jump. She is European Indoor Championships Bronze medalist, European U20 champion, and two-time World Youth champion, as well as multiple Romanian and Balkan champions.

Florentina Iusco was born on April 8, 1996, in Deva, Romania, a city famous for gymnastics. She was interested in sports and as her physique was not suited to gymnastics she focused on athletics instead. She debuted internationally at the 2010 Edirne Balkan U18 Championships, winning the bronze with 5.62m. She also won several local competitions locally, proving her talent and being one of the top long jumpers in the country.

In 2012, Florentina Iusco won gold at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Indoor Championships, silver at the Bucuresti Romanian Junior Championships, and bronze at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Championships and Bucuresti Romanian Junior Indoor Championships, all in the long jump. She also won a silver at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Indoor Championships in the triple jump.

Florentina Iusco won the Bucuresti Romanian Junior Indoor Championships and Bacau Romanian U18 Indoor Championships in 60m, before reaching major success by earning the gold at the Donetsk IAAF World Youth Championships in the long jump. With her crowning discipline, she also earned gold at the Bucuresti Romanian U18 Championships, Edirne Balkan U18 Championships, Bucuresti Romanian U18 Indoor Championships, Bucuresti Romanian Junior Indoor Championships, and Bacau Romanian U18 Indoor Championships. In the triple jump, Florentina Iusco won gold at the Donetsk IAAF World Youth Championships, Bucuresti Romanian U18 Championships, Edirne Balkan U18 Championships, and Bacau Romanian U18 Indoor Championships. With her season’s best of 6.54m in the long jump and 13.81m in the triple jump, she proved to be one of the most promising Romanian and European athletes.

In 2014, Florentina Iusco proved to be one of the most complex athletes. She won the gold at the Bucuresti Romanian Junior Indoor Championships in the long jump and 60m. Also, she won silver at the Bucuresti Romanian Indoor Championships in the long jump.

Florentina Iusco continue proving her skills in 2015, winning two golds at the Bucuresti Romanian Indoor Championships – at 60m and long jump. She also became Eskilstuna European Junior champion in the long jump, as well as Pitesti Balkan, Pitesti Romanian Junior, and Istanbul Balkan Indoor champion, and is the same discipline. She won the silver at the Pitesti Romanian Championships and the bronze at the Praha European Indoor Championships, where achieved her season best of 6.79m in the long jump. In the triple jump, she earned bronze at the Eskilstuna European Junior Championships.

In 2016 and 2017, Florentina Iusco missed the active sports seasons. She returned to the track and field in 2018 with two silver medals at the Pitesti Romanian Championships in the 100m and long jump. She also won gold at the Stara Zagora Balkan Championships and Cluj-Napoca Romanian International Championships in the long jump. She competed in the Berlin European Athletics Championships but remained out of the finals.

Florentina Iusco continued dominating the Romanian long jump in 2019, winning the gold at the Romanian Championships, silver medals at the Romanian Indoor Championships, and Balkan Indoor Championships. She also competed at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics and Glasgow European Indoor Championships but without honor.

In 2020, she won gold at the Romanian Championships, Romanian Indoor Championships, Cluj-Napoca Campionatele Internationale ale Romaniei and Balkan Indoor Championships, as well as bronze at the Balkan Championships, all in the long jump. In the triple jump, Florentina Iusco won the gold medals at the Romanian Championships and Cluj-Napoca Campionatele Internationale ale Romaniei, as well as silver at the Balkan Championships.

In 2021, Florentina Iusco competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but failed to reach the finals. However, she won the events in Romania and in the Balkans. She also competed at the Torun European Athletics Indoor Championships, finishing 9th in the final.

In 2022, Florentina Iusco won the gold at the Romanian Championships, as well as the silver at the Balkan Championships and the Romanian Indoor Championships. She competed at the Munich European Athletics Championships and Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships, but without honor in both.

Florentina Iusco won the silver at the 2023 Romanian Indoor Championships in the long jump and the gold at the 2023 Romanian Indoor Championships in the triple jump. She also competed at the Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships but remained out of the final.

Florentina Iusco has a personal best of 6.92m in the long jump and 13.94m in the triple jump.
